The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client, an established and growing main contractor delivering high-quality construction projects across London and the South East.
The role will be based from the Waterloo office, alongside regular travel to project sites, and will see you taking commercial responsibility for projects from pre-construction through to final account.
Our client delivers projects across a diverse range of sectors including commercial, residential, education, healthcare and specialist cladding remediation, working on both new build and refurbishment schemes.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a senior position, or an established Senior QS looking to join a growing contractor where they can have a genuine influence on the commercial delivery of projects.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of the commercial management of projects, working closely with the Commercial Director, project teams, clients and supply chain.
Responsibilities will include:
- Full commercial management of construction projects from procurement through to final account
- Preparing and managing project budgets, forecasts and cost reports
- Procurement and commercial management of subcontractor packages
- Preparing tender documentation and analysing subcontractor quotations
- Managing subcontractor valuations, payments and final accounts
- Preparing and submitting client applications for payment
- Identifying, pricing and managing variations and change
- Monitoring project costs, cash flow and commercial performance
- Producing accurate CVRs and monthly commercial reports
- Managing contractual correspondence and commercial risk
- Working closely with Project Managers and site teams to ensure projects are delivered within budget
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors
- Supporting junior members of the commercial team where required
- Ensuring projects are commercially closed out effectively and final accounts are agreed
The Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor
- Strong knowledge of both pre- and post-contract commercial management
- Experience managing projects independently from procurement through to final account
- Good working knowledge of JCT contracts
- Strong subcontractor procurement and management experience
- Experience producing cost reports, forecasts and CVRs
- Excellent negotiation and commercial awareness
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships with clients and project teams
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a construction-related discipline is advantageous
- Experience across refurbishment, new build, commercial, residential, education or cladding projects would be beneficial
