Senior MEP Design Manager
Salary: £80,000 – £95,000
Location: London / UK-based projects
A leading UK construction and development contractor is seeking a Senior MEP Design Manager to oversee the MEP design for multiple office-to-hotel conversion projects. This is a hands-on, senior role for an experienced building services professional with strong leadership skills, capable of delivering fully integrated, cost-effective, and energy-efficient MEP solutions.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the full MEP design process across multiple projects (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems)

Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and other design professionals to ensure designs are fully integrated and support operational requirements

Manage external MEP consultants and contractors, ensuring alignment with project goals

Act as the primary point of contact for all MEP matters, providing regular updates to project managers, clients, and construction teams

Review and approve detailed design documents, including drawings, specifications, and calculations

Oversee MEP-related RFIs, technical submissions, and documentation workflows

Ensure all designs comply with building codes, health and safety regulations, and hospitality-specific requirements

Manage MEP budgets, identify opportunities for value engineering, and maintain cost control

Review MEP services tenders and input into contractor and consultant selection

Maintain accurate, organised, and up-to-date design documentation and as-built records

Continuously improve departmental processes and ensure the Head of MEP is briefed on queries and issues
About You:

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in MEP consultancy or design management within main contractor or developer environments

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or building services engineering or related field

Proven track record in delivering large-scale, complex projects, ideally in hospitality or commercial-to-residential conversions

Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability

Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while delivering high-quality, cost-effective designs

Excellent communication and leadership skills, able to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders

Strong ethical conduct, teamwork, and commitment to high-quality delivery
