Searching for that perfect job can be an overwhelming process, often confusing. Doing an online search it’s easy to get led down many different roads, but which one is best for you?
Generic Job Boards
Putting your CV on a job board or using their template is always a good place to start. Sites such as CV-Library, Reed.co.uk & Totaljobs offer a large number of job listings and support. You will find a variety of jobs and be able to narrow them down to find exactly what you want and what suits you.
You also have the option to permit companies and agencies to find your CV and contact you to see what roles they have available and how they would suit you. This then allows agencies like us to contact you when we have the right opportunities.
Specialist Job Boards
If you don’t like the thought of endlessly scrolling through jobs on some of the larger sites, then maybe find a niche job board or register with an agency, which you might find a lot easier and quicker. You’ll have to skip past the first few search results but, uploading your CV to sites such as RCIS Recruit, Just Engineers or Build Recruitment will get you in touch with people that specialise in your industry and role type. Ensuring expert help when looking for that perfect opportunity.
LinkedIn is mainly a social media platform, but the professional network has over 830 million members and it’s growing daily. Having a presence on LinkedIn allows you to research companies and keep up to date with your industry.
Your profile allows you to keep your education/employment history up to date. Adding your new roles and companies, as well as your key achievements and your interests is a great way to keep all your information in one place and make it easy for potential employers to find everything they need. You also have the option to download your whole profile in a CV format!
Once you’re all set up, you can switch your profile to ‘Open to Opportunities’. This will notify employers that you are looking for, and they can contact you with new opportunities. You will only appear in relevant searches, so you won’t be flooded with messages.
